KARACHI: The founder and former chairman of the Department of Mass Communication at the University of Karachi (KU) Professor (retired) Zakaria Sajid passed away on Thursday morning.
Professor Zakaria Sajid was 96 years old. His funeral prayer was offered after the Zuhr prayer at Masjid Ibrahim of the University of Karachi on Thursday.
Earlier, the University of Karachi spokesperson had announced that the burial of Professor (retired) Zakaria Sajid will take place at the university’s cemetery.
He was the recipient of the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz for lifelong services in journalism.
Professor Zakaria Sajid, renowned journalist of his time, teacher, founder and former chairman of the Department of Mass Communication University of Karachi, and director of the Press Institute of Pakistan (PIP) passed away on Thursday morning.
He was the mentor and teacher of thousands of journalists who have associated with media and still attached with this profession. Professor Zakaria retired from the Department of Mass Communication, University of Karachi on June 30, 1988, but continued to teach as an adjunct professor for a long time. He was the recipient of the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz. Prof Zakaria said that his association with Sindh spanned over half a century.
His funeral prayer was offered on Thursday, July 18, after the Zuhr prayer at Masjid Ibrahim, Jamia Karachi, and his burial took place at the Jamia Karachi cemetery.
In 2009, the University of Sindh in recognition of the invaluable services of a venerated teacher of Mass Communication honoured with a memento shield and named Conference Hall of CRDC as Professor Zakria Sajid Conference hall.
Zakaria Sajid was regarded as a prominent journalist and teacher of his time. He retired from the university on June 30, 1988, and continued teaching as an adjunct professor for a long period of time.
The Vice-Chancellor of Karachi University, Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi expressed his condolences on the passing of Professor (retired) Zakaria Sajid.
