LONDON: A man has been jailed for eight-and-a-half years for raping a teenage girl who had lost her virginity an hour before the attack. Mohammed Abdullah, 34, was found guilty at Plymouth Crown Court for two charges of rape against an 18-year-old in October 2022.

The court was told he offered her money for sex and after she rejected him he stalked her, ushered her down a dark alleyway in Plymouth city centre and raped her. Abdullah, an Algerian born cook, claimed she had offered him oral sex for money.

Prosecutor James Waddington told the court on the night of the assault Abdullah had approached several women in Plymouth city centre asking if they would have sex in exchange for money. He said the teenager who had had her first consensual sexual experience an hour earlier had been seen as “an easy target” by her attacker.
Judge Peter Johnson said Abdullah’s attempt to claim the victim was a prostitute was “a futile attempt to evade justice”. The judge said Abdullah would be deported after he finished his sentence.
Det Ch Insp Darren Roach said the case had “heightened community tensions within the city centre and night-time economy”. He said: “The victim has shown incredible bravery and resilience and I commend her and her family for the strength they have shown throughout the investigation and court process.

“Whilst the impact will be long lasting, I hope that today’s sentence offers a degree of reassurance and justice to the victim.”
