LONDON: “Pakistan is grappling with its worst natural disaster in over a decade as the havoc of Monsoon heavy rains and floods have affected the lives of millions of people after which the Pakistan government declared a “national emergency”, this is expressed by Javed Raja, the Convenor of Peace International UK.
In a statement, he said that the latest survey of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) shows that 5,773,063 people have been affected by the floods. However, it clarified that the data in today’s survey was based on confirmed figures but its estimates showed that more than 33 million of the population has been affected by the floods.
“The authority shared that 51,275 have been rescued while 498,442 have been moved to relief camps. According to NDMA, Pakistan’s 30-year average showed that it has received 134mm of rain and this year it received 388.7mm of rain. 190.07 per cent more than the average. These rains have primarily fallen on Balochistan, Sindh and parts of Punjab, with Balochistan receiving five times its average 30-year rainfall and Sindh receiving 5.7 times its 30-year average, the statement reads”.
Javed Raja said that over 5.7 million people have been affected in Pakistan as the country faces the worst rain-induced flooding in its history. The rescue, relief, and rehabilitation in the country continue. A total of 949,858 homes have been partially or fully destroyed. Out of the total, 662,446 homes have been partially damaged, and 287,412 have been fully destroyed. While 719,558 livestock has also been killed.
Javed Raja said that the tragedy is that despite this catastrophe and natural disaster, the political unrest within the country is not only continued but taking towards the worst economic disaster therefore the power corridors which are matters for the stability and law and order in Pakistan should prevail the common sense and Act immediately for the stability and peace.
“The fact is that already half of the Pakistan is going through the worst monsoon rains and facing the worst flood in Pakistan. More than 1,200 people been died because of the flood and the millions are homeless and nobody bothers to look after them. The photo sessions are continued and the socalled philanthropists, government, political parties and private organisations do not feel for the demand of the poor people who are the victims of flood”.
“This is the high time that we all should work together for the support and betterment for these millions of flood victims without any discrimination”, Javed Raja emphasised.
