SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday met the family members of TV artiste Amreen Bhat and police Constable Saifullah Qadri, both of whom were killed by militants last week, and assured them of all possible help.
Bhat, who was also an emerging social media starlet, was shot dead and her 10-year-old nephew injured by three Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants at her home in Budgam district’s Chadoora on May 25.
“She was a strong-willed woman and a pillar of support to her family. We shall forever remember Amreen’s indomitable spirit”, the Lt Governor said. Bhat, who was also an emerging social media starlet, was shot dead and her 10-year-old nephew injured by three Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants at her home in Budgam district’s Chadoora on May 25.
“Met the family members of Amreen Bhat at their residence at Budgam. She was a strong-willed woman and a pillar of support to her family,” Sinha tweeted. He said the administration will provide every possible assistance and support to the family. “We shall forever remember Amreen’s indomitable spirit,” he added.
Two of the militants behind Bhat’s killing were gunned down in an encounter with security forces that broke out in the Aganhanzipora locality in Pulwama district’s Awantipora area on May 26. Later, Sinha visited the family of Qadri in the Soura area here. Qadri was shot dead and his seven-year-old daughter injured when militants fired indiscriminately at them outside their home on May 24.
“Visited Soura, Srinagar to meet the injured daughter of JKP Martyr Saifullah Qadri, India’s bravest cop. Wished a speedy recovery to her and assured the grieving family of every help and assistance,” the LG said in a tweet. Qadri was the third policeman to be killed in Kashmir this month.
On May 7, militants shot dead a policeman at Aiwa bridge, close to the Anchar locality in Srinagar, while another policeman was shot dead in Pulwama district on May 13.
Expressing his heartfelt condolences to the family members, the Lt Governor said, “The nation is blessed to have such sons of the soil like Mudasir.”
“The supreme sacrifice of the Braveheart will be eternally remembered,” he added. He also assured the family members of all possible support from the government.
Vijay Kumar, IGP Kashmir; Uday Bhasker, DIG NKR; Dr Sehrish Asgar, DC Baramulla and Rayees Muhammad, SSP Baramulla were present on the occasion.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha also met the family members of brave JKP martyr Mudasir Ahmad at their residence in Uri and paid tributes to him.
Mudassir Ahmad Sheikh, the martyred Jammu and Kashmir policeman gave his life up for the nation when he met a tragic end in the Baramulla encounter which killed three Pakistani terrorists of the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) on May 25, Wednesday. The terrorists were supposed to carry out a suicide attack in Srinagar after infiltrating from across the border. Mudassir played an important role in this encounter, as he had done in many such counter-terrorism operations earlier in Baramulla.
On May 28, he was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard in Uri, Baramulla in the evening. Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha visited the family of Mudassir Ahmed in Uri on Saturday and expressed his condolences to the relatives. While handing over a cheque of five lakh rupees as remuneration to his father, he said that the whole country is proud of your son. “The Jammu and Kashmir government is always with you,” Sinha said.
While talking to the media, Mudassir Ahmed’s grief-stricken father Maqsood Ahmed Sheikh expressed his emotions before the media. He said that he is proud of his son who sacrificed his life for the Tirangaa. “Because of his sacrifice, a thousand other lives were saved. We are very proud of him today. He is not going to return back, but we are proud of him. I have lost my son on the battlefield, I am proud of him,” he said.
“My son has sacrificed his life for the nation. A lion like him will never be reborn,” Sheikh expressed his emotions for his brave-heart son.
