ISLAMABAD: Hours before crucial sessions of National Assembly and Punjab Assembly, Prime Minister Imran Khan took an astonishing decision sacking Punjab Governor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar and appointing PTI’s leader Omer Sarfaraz Cheema in his place.

Taking to Twitter, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry announced, “The government has dismissed Punjab Governor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar from his post.”

According to media sources said that Chaudhry Sarwar sacked on Pervaiz Elahi’s complaint who is nominated for the chief ministership of Punjab province.

‘The News’ reported quoting sources privacy to the matter said that Chaudhry Sarwar was sacked on the demand of Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi as he was campaigning for Hamza Shahbaz. The sources said that Pervaiz Elahi telephoned Prime Minister Imran Khan to lodge his complaint against Chaudhry Sarwar.

Taking notice of the issue, PM Imran Khan suggested the president to sack the Punjab governor. The sources said that Chaudhry Sarwar was opposing Pervaiz Elahi for the coveted post.

Sacked governor has not commented till filing this report. But it is stated that the reasons will be astonishing but it was not expected at all. Ch. Sarwar is a honest persons and reasons would be surprising.

PTI Senator Faisal Javed Khan congratulated Cheema on his appointment and wished him luck. “[Cheema] is our old colleague and one of the ideological members of Imran Khan’s movement for justice party,” he said.

Choudhary M. Sarwar – sacked by Imran Khan

Choudhary Sarwar is a former member of the British parliament and had abandoned his political career in Glasgow to serve in Pakistan in 2013. He had joined the PML-N and was made the Punjab governor after the party won the 2013 general elections in the centre as well as in Punjab.

However, he had had resigned from Punjab governor office in January 2015 and immediately joined the PTI. In September 2018, he was sworn in as governor for a second term.

Meanwhile, the new Punjab governor is one of the pioneer members of the PTI. He had joined the party in April 1996 and served as its central information secretary for five years as well as the chairman’s spokesperson for a brief stint in 2015. He has also served as party’s deputy organiser of Punjab.
