LONDON: Chairman Pakistan People Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari during their stay in London visited the residence of Zulfiqaur Wajid Hasan and expressed his heartiest condolence at the sad demise of of his mother Mrs. Zarina Wajid Hasan and father Wajid Shamsul Hasan (better known as Wajid Bhai).
Mrs. Zarina Wajid passed away on 3rd April and was laid to rest on Thursday, 7th April at Trent Park Cemetery Cockfosters Road, Barnet (EN4 0DZ). Wajid Shamsul Hasan left for his eternal journey on 28 September 2021 (born in January 1941) after a prolong illness. He is also lying-in peace in the same Cemetery.
Veteran journalist, intellectual and former ambassador to the UK, Wajid Shamsul Hasan was known for his unflinching support for democracy in Pakistan and was also a close confidante of late prime minister Benazir Bhutto. He had served as Pakistan’s high commissioner to the UK from 2008-2013.
Recalling his services for the journalism and democracy, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that Wajid uncle played a pivotal role in drafting the famous Charter of Democracy signed between the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in 2007.
Reacting to the stalwart’s demise, PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said he was saddened and so were other party members and leaders.
“With the death of Wajid Shamsul Hasan, Pakistan has lost a patriot,” Bilawal said, adding that the “Truth of the matter is that he was not only PPP’s but the entire nation’s asset”.
The PPP chairperson went on to add that Wajid Shamsul Hasan rendered invaluable services for journalism and democracy, and prayed for eternal peace for the departed soul.
Bilawal Bhutto said that PPP never forget the sincere companions and dedicated workers and Wajid Shamsul Hasan was among those distinguished personalities who rendered their services for the party and especially the Chairperson Mohatarma Benazir Bhutto.
“His father Nawab Shamsul Hasan had remained Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s associate for 40 years. He was sincere and great friend of the Bhutto family”, he concluded.
PPP’s Chairman spent more than one hour with Zulfiquar Wajid Hasan and his wife and recalled the old memoirs and the party will never services of late Wajid Shamsul Hasan and his wife Mrs. Zarina Wajid.
