ISLAMABAD: Two federal ministers Asad Umer and Fawad Choudhary have accused former premier Nawaz Sharif being main character of foreign plot against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif  and stated that Imran Khan is ready to share a letter — that he claimed during the PTI’s March 27 rally contained evidence of a “foreign-funded conspiracy” to topple his government — with Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial, federal minister Asad Umar said on Tuesday.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad alongside Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry, Minister for Planning and Development Umar said he had seen the letter himself, adding that if someone had doubts, the “prime minister is ready … he thought we can share with the chief justice of the Supreme Court.”

ISLAMABAD: Planning and Development Minister Asad Umar (L) and Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry address a press conference in Islamabad on Tuesday.

“Obviously, it is the highest office of justice in Pakistan, it is a huge position that has respect in this country. Personally too, the chief justice has a very good reputation. The prime minister said that on the nation’s behalf, if necessary, and for the people’s satisfaction, he is ready to present the letter to the chief justice of the Supreme Court.”

The minister said the letter was dated prior to the tabling of the no-confidence motion in the National Assembly. “This is a very concerning thing and it is important because this letter clearly mentions the no-confidence resolution. There is no ambiguity that the no-confidence motion is being talked about.”

Umar further said the letter stated that if Imran Khan remained the prime minister, it would lead to “horrific consequences”.

In his speech at the massive public gathering on March 27, the Prime Minister had referred to the letter saying that the content of the letter makes it clear that foreign elements are involved in the opposition’s No Confidence Motion against him, Asad Umar said.

He said the principle character behind this plot against the government was former prime minister Nawaz Sharif sitting in London facilitating the international establishment besides the senior leadership of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) might also be knowingly involved in this conspiracy.

“The national secrets are of highly sensitive nature. And there are laws that such secrets can not be shared with everyone. However, in order to satisfy the people about the authenticity of the letter, the Prime Minister has agreed to show it to the most reliable person with good reputation Chief Justice Supreme Court of Pakistan”, the minister said.

Asad Umar highlighted that the most important aspect of that letter was that it was written before presentation of the no confidence motion in the National Assembly in which there was direct reference of the motion, so no one can deny this fact.

“I myself have read the letter for many times, therefore I am giving the statement with full confidence,” he said adding that the letter has been shared only with the top civil and military leadership and only two or three cabinet members were among those with whom the letter was shared.

With respect to the content of the letter, the minister highlighted that it was clearly written that if the no confidence motion would not succeed, and if PM Imran Khan remained in office, the repercussions would be horrible.

Asad Umar maintained that the letter was directly focused on Pakistan’s foreign policy which made it clear that the message was linked to the no confidence motion and it was totally inter-linked with the foreign elements.

It also makes it clear that the senior leadership of the PDM was in contact with those foreign elements, the minister added.

Since the letter was directly linked with the nation, therefore the PM decided to inform his people about what was happening behind the scene.
He said specially the PM wanted to convey the realities to all the parliament members, whether they were defected members of PTI, or they belonged to the opposition parties, who were not aware of the conspiracy.

He said after unearthing of such realities, except few, all such members of the parliament who were unknowingly becoming part of this international plot would distance themselves from the Motion. “Now I believe that they would never ready to become part of such international conspiracy,” he added.

Replying to a question, he said the people including few senior media persons who were claiming to have the copy of that letter were lying because it had never been showed to any such irrelevant person.

Replying to another question, Asad Umar said keeping in view the sensitivity of the secret, the government could not risk sharing the letter with the 342 members of the parliament.

Fawad Choudhary

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain on Tuesday said the foreign letter had clearly indicated that Prime Minister Imran Khan might face the consequences for his pro-people politics. The covert warning was given to the prime minister under an international conspiracy hatched to dislodge his government, he said.

The minister said it was deliberated in the meeting that as to what extent the contents of the letter could be shared. Its full details might be shared with the Chief Justice of Pakistan, he added.

Pakistan’s history, he said, was rife with foreign conspiracies, recalling the assassination of the first prime minister Liaquat Ali Khan, hanging of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and General Ziaul Haq’s plane crash.

Terming PM Imran Khan the brave leader, Fawad said he had always taken the people into confidence over national issues and never bowed to any pressure and caved in to the “calls from abroad”.

Being a political party, it was the job of PTI leadership to tell the people about truth, he added. The letter was received before submission of the no-confidence motion (in the National Assembly), which was also mentioned in it (letter).

“This is my stance from the day one that Nawaz Sharif should not have been allowed to go abroad. When such persons flee the country, they become stooges of the international establishment,” the minister maintained.

Fawad claimed that Nawaz Sharif had met various anti-state people, including Israeli diplomats in London, and such meetings were even reported in the media too.Taking a dig at some senior anchor-persons, he said they needed to take training from their juniors who knew better as to how verify the news before being reported.

All the letters circulating in the media were “fake” as no copy of the original one had been shared with any media person, he added.
