LONDON: Officers from the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command have arrested two men as part of a proactive investigation.
A 30-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday, 8 February in east London on suspicion of being concerned in the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism, under section 41 of the Terrorism Act (TACT) 2000. He was taken to a London police station, where he currently remains in police custody.
On Thursday, 10 February, officers were granted a warrant of further detention at Westminster Magistrates’ Court – allowing them to detain the man until the warrant expires on Tuesday, 15 February.
As part of the same investigation, on Thursday, 10 February, officers arrested another man, also aged 30, under Section 38B of the Terrorism Act 2000.
On Friday, 11 February, he was released under investigation pending further enquiries.
Two properties in east London have been searched by officers. The investigation is ongoing. There is not believed to be any imminent threat to the public in relation to this matter.
