ISLAMABAD: Outgoing Director General of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed paid a farewell call on Prime Minister Imran Khan at the PM Office on Thursday.

Imran Khan lauded Gen Faizs services as the ISI chief and expressed good wishes for him on his appointment as Corps Commander Peshawar.

Gen Faiz also paid a farewell call on Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi. Earlier, he had met President Dr. Arif Alvi.

On Oct 26, the prime minister notified the appointment of Lieutenant General Nadeem Ahmed Anjum as the new Director-General of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). He will take the charge as the new spymaster on Nov 20.

Gen Anjum, who served as Corps Commander Karachi before his new assignment, has already handed over the command of Karachi Corps to his successor Lieutenant General Muhammad Saeed.

Gen Faiz was appointed as Corps Commander Peshawar and Gen Anjum as the new ISI chief among other appointments announced by the military in a major reshuffle on Oct 6.

The President appreciated the efforts and services of Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed as DG ISI for security of the country. The President also expressed his best wishes for Lt Gen Faiz Hameed on his appointment as Peshawar Corps Commander.

“ISI is a very potential agency and its services for the nation and country are laudable. We expect much more with this vial organisation”, Dr. Alvi said.

Meanwhile, Dr Arif Alvi on Tuesday said that India was pursuing the dangerous policy of Islamophobia and stressed the need for steps by sane elements in society to prevent the trend.

He said India would lead itself to destruction by promoting hatred against Muslims. “Dangerous for India. In this Islamophobic hatred, India will destroy itself, no less,” he wrote in a tweet. He said, “I hope and pray that sane elements within Indian society prevent this.”

The president also quoted Czech writer Milan Kundera as saying that ‘the first step in liquidating a people is to erase its memory. Destroy its books, its culture, destroy its history. Then have somebody write new books, manufacture a new culture, invent a new history’.

“Before long that nation will begin to forget what it is and what it was… The struggle of man against power is the struggle of memory against forgetting,” the president wrote referring to Kundera.
