ISLAMABAD: The summary related to appointment of new DG-ISI has been received by the Prime Minister Office today and now Prime Minister Imran Khan will take decision which is being waited eagerly by the whole nation, Geo News has reported.

Lt Gen Nadeem Ahmed Anjum

It is learnt that three names are mentioned in summary and Lt. Gen Nadeem Ahmad Anjum’s name is including in them, He has already been appointed as DG-ISI in an ISPR announcement that was made on 6th October but the notification was not issued by the PM House.

Notwithstanding, Prime Minister Imran Khan and a number of federal ministers including Information and Broadcasting Fawad Choudhary and Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid, have assured in press conference and interviews that the issue of appointment of new ISI chief has been sorted out amicably and both the authorities (PM and COAS) are in agreement on the subject but no notification was released even Saturday (16th October).

According to informed sources, the decision to appoint Lt. Gen Nadeem Ahmed Anjum as DG-ISI will remain intact which was taken by COAS Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa but initially the prime minister was reportedly reluctant to agree. Now the reliable sources claim that Lt. Gen Nadeem would remain ISI boss otherwise it would be an undermining situation for him and also for COAS but since it is a professional subject, any decision can be taken.

Situation is this that summary for the appointment of new Director General Inter-Services Intelligence could not be moved to the PM office even on Saturday and the matter is still hanging between Islamabad (PM House) and Rawalpindi (GHQ) since 8th October when in major military reshuffle Corps Commander Lt-Gen Nadeem Ahmed Anjum was announced as DG ISI by ISPR.

The ISPR is completely silence since then and only ministers are issuing statements to clarifying the situation. “What is hitch in releasing the notification, all are silent on this subject”.

Official sources at the PM office told ‘The Nation’, Lahore that there was no progress on appointment of the New DG ISI as PM Imran Khan had not signed the official summary and matter had been gone to next week. Official sources avoided the answer on status of the summary whether it was at the PM office or at the Ministry of Defence in Rawalpindi.

Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa flew from Karachi to Rawalpindi on Friday after attending some high-profile military events in Karachi. There were reports of a possible meeting between army chief and Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday or after wards.

Sources maintained that Prime Minister Imran Khan had desired inclusion of the name of his choice in official summary for DG ISI position which is causing delay in signing the summary by the PM office.

Another reason for the delay is the desire by Prime Minister Imran Khan to interview the candidates mentioned in the official summary for DG ISI position.

Another source confirmed that Prime Minister Imran Khan wanted that incumbent DG ISI Lt Gen Faiz Hamid may continue for six months, however a message was conveyed to the PM office that maximum extension to DG ISI Lt-Gen Faiz could be till November this year.

Sources in Rawalpindi also insisted and conveyed the message that Lt-Gen Nadeem Ahmed Anjum would be the final choice of them for the post of DG ISI and there would be no review of the decision.
