LAHORE: PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif says he must not be singled out for failing to have a cordial working relationship with the establishment as all the past prime ministers had faced a similar situation.

He was talking to the Faisalabad division leadership of the party here through a video link from London on Thursday.

Mr Sharif said the Quaid-i-Azam was the only lucky leader spared by the establishment; otherwise, all others met a miserable destiny as no prime minister went home gracefully. He said he loved the armed forces and had no reason to oppose them [provided the forces didn’t intervene in politics] as he insisted only on giving respect to the elected prime ministers.

In a reference to retired Lt-Gen Asim Saleem Bajwa’s pizza business worth billions of rupees, he repeated his demand for seeking money trail from the retired army officer for how a salaried person had amassed such huge assets.

Nawaz also criticised Prime Minister Imran Khan, alleging that the latter had secured two plots of land from him (when the former was the prime minister) as well as from ex-military ruler Gen Ziaul Haq. He said Imran might have got a plot from Gen Musharraf in return for supporting the latter’s so-called referendum [in 2002].

He said that former chief justice Saqib Nisar had ousted him from power on the basis of holding Iqama (work permit for the Gulf states), while regularising [illegally built] Bani Gala house of Imran Khan.

Maryam Nawaz

The PML-N’s Vice-President Maryam Nawaz Wednesday said that party president Shehbaz Sharif had become an ‘International Sadiq and Ameen’ after UK court’s verdict in his favour.  “Today, I congratulated Shehbaz Sharif as he has now become an international Sadiq and Ameen following the UK court decision”, she said while addressing a meeting of the party’s Lahore chapter held at the PML-N’s central secretariat in Model Town Lahore. Mian Nawaz Sharif participated in the meeting through video link from London. Senior party leaders including Ahsan Iqbal, Rana Sana Ullah, Hamza Shehbaz Sharif, Javid Latif, Pervaiz Rashid, Marriyum Aurangzeb, Azma Bokhari, Awais Leghari and Nuzhat Sadiq attended the meeting.

Awards title of ‘International Sadiq and Ameen’ to Shehbaz Sharif Maryam lamented that it was unfortunate to see that politicians belonging to all political parties had been labelled as corrupt through a propaganda campaign. “The PML-N also faced this propaganda as all its leaders have been implicated in false cases,” she said. Maryam alleged that PM Imran was pressurizing the NAB and FIA officials to institute cases against PML-N leaders. Fake cases were also made against Shehbaz Sharif, she added. Also, Maryam Nawaz Wednesday said that Mohammad Zubair was there to stay as her spokesperson despite the leaked video scam. “Mohammad Zubair is my spokesperson and will remain so in future also”, she said while informally talking to media persons at the party secretariat here. She said that Mohammad Zubair and his wife received threats before the video leak. She claimed she had the video of this conspiracy. “But nobody threatens me now. I did receive a threat earlier, and Nawaz Sharif gave a befitting reply. If anybody wants to have a fight with me, he should fight politically”, she observed.
