MUZAFFARABAD: The Senior Judge of Azad Jammu and Supreme Court Justice Khawaja Muhammad Nasim took the oath as the acting Chief Justice of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Supreme court here on Wednesday.

The Azad Jammu and Kashmir President Barrister Sultan Mehmood Choudhry administered the oath. The ceremony was attended by the judge of the supreme court Justice Raza Ali Khan, Chief Justice of Azad Kashmir High court Justice Sadaqat Hussain Raja, former judges of the higher judiciary, cabinet ministers, MLAs and lawyers.

The proceedings of the ceremony started with the recitation of Holy Quran. Additional Secretary Law, Raja Zahid read the notification of the appointment of acting Chief Justice. Chief Justice AJK Justice Raja Saeed Akram Khan is on ex-Pakistan leave from 15th to 22th September.

Briefing on power project

President Barrister Sultan Mahmood was given briefing of Croat Hydro Power Project at Presidential Secretariate on 15th September. This project can produce 720-megawatt power energy and Chinese official company China Three Gorges Corporation is sponsoring it.

President Sultan Mahmood advised to complete this project as early as possible as the people of three districts are suffering because of delay. “Azad Patan Bridge and road should be completed without further delay”, he advised.

Joint session of Bar

Meanwhile, Barrister Sultan Mahmood addressed the joint session of Central Bar Association and Azad Jammu and Kashmir Bar Council in Muzaffarabad and highlighted the various aspects of future steps to streamline the judiciary system.

He said that Kashmir issue has enter into its decisive phase and appealed to the legal community to mobilize the Bar Associations of the world to expose the Indian forces brutalities on the innocent Kashmiri by the Indian occupation forces over the globe.

Addressing a function jointly organized by the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Bar Council and Central Bar Association in the honour of the President here on Thursday, he said lawyers are the respectable segments of our society and have been playing a significant role for dispensation of justice to the masses.

He said he will do all possible to resolve the crisis regarding the appointments of judges in the Higher judiciary and after meetings with the Chief Justices of the Supreme court and High Court the matter regarding the appointments of Judges in the High court will be finalized. He assured that merit will be maintained and steps would be taken for the overall improvement of the judicial system. He said the work on the local bodies systems has been stated to transfer the power at the gross root level to address the problems of the people at local level. The President highly appreciated the vibrant role of the overseas Kashmiri for projecting the Kashmir issue in its true perspective and exposing the Indian forces brutalities at international level He said overseas Kashmiri have also playing constructive role in strengthening economy of the country and called for giving right of votes to them to further utilize their potential for development and wellbeing of the country. The President said that Azad Kashmir will be made a real base camp of the liberation movement to project effectively the Kashmir issue over the globe. He assured to utilize all out efforts for the liberation of occupied Kashmir and steps in this regard have already been taken. In this connection he said a complete briefing about the latest situation obtaining in Occupied Kashmir has been conveyed to the ambassadors of the European and other countries of the world and urged them to support resolving the lingering Kashmir issue for establishing lasting and durable peace in the region.

A resolution was also adopted on the occasion, highly appreciating the role of the President of Azad Kashmir, Barrister Sultan Mehmood Choudhary for effectively projecting the Kashmir issue over the globe. Later Fatha was offered for the soul of the Syed Ali Gillani and paid rich tributes to him for his services rendered for the liberation of Occupied Kashmir.
