Strategy for drastic reforms
in AJK ready: Imran Khan


ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan was told on Friday that a strategy for major institutional and economic reforms in Azad Jammu and Kashmir was ready for its phased implementation.

In a meeting, the prime minister was briefed on the AJK governments reforms strategy for economic development, providing employment, food security, better service delivery, institutional reforms and rule of law.

Minister for Kashmir Affairs Ali Amin Gandapur, AJK Prime Minister Sardar Abdul Qayyum Niazi, AJK chief secretary and other senior officers attended the meeting.

The meeting was told that the reforms strategy would be implemented in two phases.

To be implemented in six months, the first phase comprises cleanliness of cities and nullahs, removal of encroachments along banks of water bodies, reforms in education and health sectors, repair and rehabilitation of basic infrastructure and water and power systems.

The meeting was told that the AJK government would carry out weekly planning to ensure the implementation of first phase within the stipulated time.

The second phase, which consisted of long-term reforms, was meant to bring about economic development, ease of doing business and promotion of tourism. Moreover, the government would also uplift livestock, floriculture, horticulture and kitchen gardening for food security.

Similarly, the completion of half-complete projects, monitoring of education and health sectors through technology, improvement in power sector, taxation reforms and rule of law were also part of the reforms strategy.

Underscoring the vitality of rule of law, the prime minister said the welfare states were known for having non-discriminatory laws for both rich and poor.

Moreover, he said the government was also ensuring the formulation of a comprehensive strategy for promotion of tourism and its immediate enforcement.

The meeting was informed that comprehensive reforms for the socio-economic development for the people of Azad Kashmir have been finalized by the government of Azad Kashmir. The reforms include economic development, institutional reforms, provision of jobs and supremacy of the law and other related issues. The reforms will be implemented in two phases. In the first phase the health and sanitation system in the urban areas will be restored including the cleaning of drains and to eliminate the   encroachment.  It also includes the fundamental reforms in education, health provision of electricity and clean drinking water to the people.

In the second phase steps would be taken to introduce a long-term strategy for the economic and Tourism development, provisions of jobs and extending facilities to the investors. The meeting   was further informed that efforts would be made to complete the ongoing developmental projects while revolutionary steps would be taken in the tax reforms, improvement of electricity system and strict monitoring system with modern technology will be implemented for the promotion of education and health while steps would also be taken for the supremacy of the law.

Addressing the meeting the Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan stressed the need for the supremacy of the law and added that the law is the same for the rich and the poor in the welfare states. He said   a solid strategy is being chalked out for the development of Tourism and its implementation will also be ensured. The meeting was attended by the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister Sardar Abdul Qayyum Niazi, the Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs Ali Amin Gandapur, Chief Secretary Azad Kashmir Shakeel Qadir Khan and high ranking officials of the AJK government.  

Cricket Academy to be established

The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister Sardar Abdul Qayyum Niazi has announced the establishment of a cricket academy of international standard to promote sport activities in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. He was Talking to the chairman of Kashmir committee Shehryar Afridi, and renowned cricket star Shahid Afridi who met him here on Wednesday. The Prime Minister said the first cricket academy will be set up in the name of Shahid Afridi and directed the concerned officials to make necessary arrangements for the setting up of the academy in the state. The Prime Minister said that Azad Kashmir is a fortress of peace while in occupied Kashmir more than seven lack Indian forces have cordoned off the entire state of occupied Kashmir and daily life of the people have become miserable at the hands of brute Indian forces .He said Indian has also intensities the reign of terror to suppress the indigenous freedom movement launched by the people of occupied Kashmir and added   the opening of Kashmir premier league in Azad Kashmir have given a positive signals  to the international community.

The Prime Minister lauded the role of Pak Army, Police, Administration and other security agencies for extending best security during the KPL matches.

The chairman of Kashmir committee Shehryar Afridi while talking to the Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir said that the Federal government would extend all available resources to the Azad Kashmir government for the development of the state. Shahid Afridi during a meeting with the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister said that KPL season two will be held to promote the local talent in Azad Kashmir.  

Revolutionary steps for health, education

The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister Sardar Abdul Qayyum Niazi has said that revolutionary steps would be taken for the provision of health and education facilities to the people of Azad Kashmir. Talking to various delegations at Jammu Kashmir House here on Friday, he said special emphasis will be given for the development of infrastructure to extend better communication facilities to the people. He said problems being faced by the people of the state will be redress and accountability process would be started without any discrimination. He said corruption is the great hurdle in the way of development of the country and expressed his intention to carry out an intensive anti corruption drive.

The AJK Prime Minister said that the Pakistan Prime Minister is taking keen interest in the development of Azad Kashmir with special emphasis on Tourism development to create jobs for the educated youth and added that Prime Minister Pakistan is also taking revolutionary steps to address the basic problems of the people. 

Visits residence of Midhat Shahzad

The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister Sardar Abbdul Qayyum Niazi visited the residence of Secretary Information and Information technology Midhat Shahzad and expressed deep sense of shock over the sad demise of her father. He prayed for the departed soul and expressed sympathies with the bereaved family.  Principal Secretary Zafar Khan was also present on the occasion.

The Prime Minister also visited the residence of Secretary local government and rural development Raja Ijaz Ahmed Khan and condoled with him over the death of his elder brother. Principal Secretary Zafar Khan was also present on the occasion.
