PDM says foreign funding biggest scam

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan opposition alliance Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) has raised the issue of foreign funding to ruling PTI and chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has termed the foreign funding case as the ‘biggest scandal in the history of the country’ and said that Imran Khan had created political instability by taking “Mother of NROs.”

While addressing a press conference with Maryam Nawaz after a PDM steering committee meeting in Islamabad, he said that the meeting discussed the strategy of PDM’s protest before the Election Commission. “On Tuesday, the PDM leadership will stage a massive protest in front of the Election Commission of Pakistan,” he added.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman alleged that Imran Khan was the main accused in the foreign funding case in which private business was done through a secret account. He said that PDM will protest in front of the ECP office and demand an early verdict as the delay is raising suspicions.

Informing about the decisions taken by the PDM steering committee, he said that on January 21, there will be a million-march rejecting Israel followed by a rally in solidarity with Kashmiris on February 5 at Liaquat Bagh, Rawalpindi. “There will be a full-scale protest against those who sold off Kashmir,” he said.

He further said that historic rallies would be held in Hyderabad on February 9, Sialkot on February 13, Pishin on February 16, Sargodha on February 23, Khuzdar on February 27, followed by the decision to march towards Islamabad. Long March’s final date will be announced at the PDM rally, he affirmed.

He said the meeting discussed the strategy for Tuesday’s protest outside the ECP and it was decided that “the PDM leadership will enthusiastically stage a protest demonstration in front of the Election Commission regarding the foreign funding case.”

Rehman termed the foreign funding case “the biggest scandal in Pakistan’s political history” whose central character he said was Prime Minister Imran Khan.

He accused the premier of illegally collecting millions of rupees from around the world in the name of his party and “using them for political disruption and election rigging by bringing the money into the country through hundi and other means”.

Rehman said the foreign funding case against the ruling PTI had been pending for six years and Prime Minister Imran took “the mother of NROs” to create political instability in Pakistan and “used funds collected in the name of charity for personal business and spreading chaos, illegally and through secret accounts”.

The foreign funding case against the PTI was filed in November 2014 by Akbar S. Babar, a founding member of the party. The case relates to allegations of undisclosed foreign funding of the PTI.

Ahsan Iqbal

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) senior leader Ahsan Iqbal on Monday claimed that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) hid funds that were received from Israel and India from Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

Talking to media, Ahsan Iqbal said that State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) provided details of bank accounts that were not revealed by PTI. He further said that decision of cases of PTI should be announced soon as case of Faisal Vawda has not made any progress for several months.

The PML-N leader further said that PTI acknowledged foreign funding in scrutiny committee but blamed its agents for that. Funding of millions of rupees created instability in the politics of country, he added.

Ahsan Iqbal further said that results of general elections of 2018 should be declared nullified.
