LAHORE: The PTI Government has taken completely U-turn deleting 40 names of PML-N leadership and leaving only former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in FIR for further investigation and to make a formal case against him. The FIR was registered two weeks before by a PTI activist Badar Rasheed who himself stated to be a criminal involved in murder and other cases and has been declared history sheeter but unfortunately enjoys access to big faces of ruling party and even PML-N.

Government ministers especially Fawad Choudhary as a face saving explained that the government has nothing to do with this case as it has been registered at the complained of a citizen Badar Rasheed but they completely ignore the laws that a sedition case can only be registered by or or behalf of the government and not a citizen.

A photo released last week shows Punjab Governor Ch. M. Sarwar giving a certificate to Badar Rasheed in recognition to his services for the party – Tehreek-e-Insaaf at the Governor House in Lahore. Ch. M. Sarwar says that Badar Rasheed has many pictures with PML-N leaders as well.

According to a report, a special police team has started investigation of case No 3033/20, registered against Nawaz Sharif with Shahdra police station. The team, while investigating the case according to its terms of reference (ToRs), recorded the statement of the complainant. In view of the FIR and the statement of the complainant, the team deleted sections 121A PPC, 123A PPC, 124 PPC and 153A PPC, which are inconsistent with the text of the FIR.

The latest development to this case is that the investigation team decided to take no legal action against Raja Zafarul Haq, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Khurram Dastaghir, Senator Gen (retd) Abdul Qayyum, Saleem Zia, Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, Salahuddin Tirmizi, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Ahsan Iqbal, Sheikh Aftab Ahmed, Pervaiz Rashid, Khwaja Asif, Rana Sanaullah, Begum Najma Hameed, Begum Zakia Shah Nawaz, Tariq Razzaq Chaudhry, Sardar Yaqub Nisar, Nawabzada Changez Murree, Miftah Ismail, Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Muhammad Zubair, Abdul Qadir Baloch, Shiza Fatima Khwaja, Murtaza Javed Abbasi, Mehtab Abbasi, Mian Javed Latif. Marriyum Aurangzeb, Ataullah Tarar, Chaudhry Birjis Tahir, Chaudhry Muhammad Jafar Iqbal, Azmi Bukhari, Shaista Malik, Saira Afzal Tarar, Begum Ishrat Ashraf, Waheed Alam, Raheela Durrani (Balochistan), Daniel Aziz, Raja Farooq Haider, Saad Rafique, Amir Maqam, Irfan Siddiqui and others due to incomplete evidence. Name of AJK Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider has already been deleted after huge protests by the Kashmiri people.

The investigation of rest of the case would be completed in accordance with the requirements of the law, evidence and justice, a spokesman for the Investigation Wing Lahore said. The police on Saturday declared all senior PML-N leadership innocent, except for former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, in a sedition case lodged with the Shahdara police recently and also removed four sections of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) from the FIR.

Badar Rasheed with Nisar

The development came late on Saturday after a meeting held between the special investigation team probing into the case and Lahore’s Capital City Police Officer Umar Sheikh. The federal government distanced itself from the move as Prime Minister Imran Khan expressed his displeasure over the development.

ARTICLE CONTINUES AFTER ADThe complainant alleged that the former premier delivered “hateful speeches” against the state, its institutions and the nation while addressing the opposition’s multiparty conference and his party’s Central Working Committee and Central Executive Committee on Sept 20 and Oct 1.

He said the party leaders who were attending these meetings endorsed speeches of Mr Sharif by raising hands. He said the purpose of calling these meetings and the speeches of Nawaz Sharif and the PML-N leaders was to endorse the policy of India aimed to get Pakistan declared ‘a rogue state’ and to keep its name on the grey list of the Financial Action Task Force.

Applicant Badar Rasheed

Badar Rasheed, the man behind the sedition case against Nawaz Sharif and other PML-N leaders, is himself is stated to be a history-sheeter, according to the police record. He has a criminal record, including an attempted murder charge, with cases registered against him at various police stations of Lahore. The police said that Badar had cases of attempted murder, illegal weapons and interference in government matters, lodged against him. Interestingly, the attempted murder case had been registered with the Shahdara police station, where the sedition case was lodged.

Also, an illegal weapons case had been registered with the Sharqpur police station, whereas a case of interference in government matters and a scuffle with police had been registered at the Old Anarkali police station. The police confirmed that Badar had also been arrested in some cases. He also contested an election for a union council chairman’s post on the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) ticket.

Pictures of Badar Rasheed with Punjab Governor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar also emerged on Tuesday. It was reported that he was the president of PTI youth wing in Ravi Town. Badar Rasheed is not accessible in Lahore and a media team visited his residence where it was informed that Badar Rasheed had not returned home since yesterday and the family was unaware of his whereabouts. They also refused to talk to the media regarding the matter.
