LAHORE: An accountability court on Thursday (October 1) extended the judicial remand of Jang-Geo Editor-in-Chief Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman till October 15. The authorities concerned produced him before Accountability Court Judge Assad Ali. Senior lawyer Amjad Parvez represented Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman during the hearing.
The editor-in-chief is in custody for more than 209 days (till Thursday) in a case that is of documentary nature. Moreover, the NAB had filed a reference over a property deal reached with the owners of private land 34 years ago. He was arrested on 12th March this year.
The Supreme Court took up on Thursday the appeal of Mir Shakil against an order passed by the Lahore High Court (LHC) dismissing his post-arrest bail petition in a case relating to a property transaction that took place 34 years ago.
A new three-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Mushir Alam and comprising Justice Muneeb Akhtar and Justice Qazi Muhammad Amin Ahmed will take up the appeal of Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman.
The apex court has summoned a report from Accountability Court on this case.
