Nawaz Sharif fires back

Says will not sit quite on deteriorating situation of the country and people, Gen Asim should be made accountable for building unlimited assets, my fight is with those who brought Imran Khan into power

LONDON: PML-N supremo and three times Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday hit out at the PTI government for failing to control inflation and poverty. He reiterated that the opposition’s fight was not against Prime Minister Imran. “We don’t give any importance to him. He is a selected prime minister which you have imposed upon this country. “Those who brought this gift to us should answer why they stolen the election and mandate of the Pakistani people?” he said, adding that he could no longer remain silent considering the state of affairs.

Addressing a meeting of the PML-N’s Central Working Committee (CWC) via video link, the former prime minister said he was pained to see the existing state of affairs in the country, adding that the poor were today unable to afford food and send their children to school.

“And no one should try to shut me up. Because I won’t,” he said amid applause and cheers from party workers. “Is this what the ‘state of Madina’ looks like?” he questioned, adding that the PTI government had failed to fulfil its tall promises.

LONDON: Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif tells media persons on Wednesday that he made Cruise missile copying American missile. Former Finance Minister Ishaq Dar stands with him.

You have destroyed Pakistan in every field,” he said while addressing the government, and asked where the 10 million jobs were that it had promised to the people. “Where are the people who brought you into power? They should answer to the nation as well.

He reiterated that the opposition’s fight was not against Prime Minister Imran. “We don’t give any importance to him. He is a selected prime minister which you have imposed upon this country. He said the Pakistani people were prosperous until 2018 and the PML-N during its tenure had started development projects in all sectors.

“There was adequate electricity again, terrorism ended, the economy was skyrocketing, poverty was ending, the gas too became available, people were getting employment and Pakistan was on its way to join the G20,” the former premier said.

He said the PTI government had spent more funds on the Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project than the combined cost of the Lahore, Islamabad and Multan Metro bus projects started by the PML-N.

Earlier, on Wednesday, addressing the central executive committee of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Nawaz Sharif claimed that  he has been informed that “someone else” was running the parliament houses, in lieu of its members.

In his second virtual address in less than two weeks, Nawaz said, “People tell me that someone else is running the parliament. Other people come and give directions about the day’s agenda and voting on bills etc.”

Commenting on the country’s current political situation, he said, “We have broken free of the [British] colonisers only to be enslaved by our own. Today, we are not free citizens.”

In another video shared by PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz, the former premier said that a colonel could be seen hiding his face during the hearing of a case against him by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

“What was the reason behind hiding his face? You were being insincere that is why you hid your face,” he said.

The speech comes days after Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed rocked the domestic political landscape by revealing the closet meetings between the military leadership and the opposition parties.
