Pak opposition leaders visit Muzaffarabad, chalk out strategy to campaign for Kashmir


MUZAFFARABAD: Two days after criticizing Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi for condemning Organisation of Islamic Countries (OIC)’s irrelevancy towards Kashmir issue, Pakistan’s opposition leader Shahbaz Sharif led a parliamentary delegation to Muzaffarabad on Friday to express solidarity with the Kashmiri people.

At the Muzaffarabad airport, he and other members of the delegation former PPP Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and JUI-F MNA Asad Mehmood, were welcomed by AJK President Sardar Masood Khan, Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider Khan and Information Minister Raja Mushtaq Ahmed Minhas.

Later, Shahbaz Sharif called on Sardar Masood Khan and while expressing solidarity with the people of J&K’s struggle for their freedom and right to self-determination from India. They agreed to launch a vigorous campaign for Kashmiri people in AJK, Pakistan, G&B and other countries. “Overseas Kashmiris should be motivated vigorously and should be used as an effective platform to expose India’s brutalities and suppression of Kashmiri oppressed people”, they suggested and decided to work out a strategy to implement.

At the occasion, Raja Pervez Ashraf said his party PPP has a long association with Kashmir and previous governments of the party had raised the voice of Kashmiri people all over the world and had kept the nation together on the issue.

MNA Asa Mehmood said that his party has the honour of chairing parliamentary Kashmir Committee in the governments of PPP and the PML-N and effectively highlighting the Kashmir issue at the national and international levels.

Addressing the media after the meeting, Sardar Masood thanked members of the delegation for visiting Muzaffarabad and expressing solidarity with the people of J&K. He said that the visit of the Pakistan’s opposition parties would not only reinvigorate efforts for the unity and solidarity in the country but it would also send a very positive message to the besieged Kashmiri people on the other side of the Line of Control (LoC).

Shehbaz Sharif, who is also president of the PML-N and opposition leader in National Assembly, said that all political forces of the country are united on the issue of Kashmir. He assured that 220 million people of Pakistan stand by their Kashmiri brethren and they are ready to offer all kind of sacrifices to make the Kashmir’s liberation movement a success.

“Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi should not criticize OIC as a whole and any individual Muslim country for not taking interest in resolving the Kashmir issue as this is very crucial time and every country has to following its own policy. But undoubtedly, we should continue our efforts to convince the world about the miserable situation of Kashmiri people”, Shahbaz Sharif commented.
