High level Pak civilian and military meeting discusses security situation

ISLAMABAD: A high level civilian-military meeting was held at the foreign ministry in Islamabad on Friday (June 26), on regional security and India related affairs presided by Minister for Foreign Affairs Shah Mahmood Qureshi. The meeting was held at a time when Pakistan and India diplomatic relations are at stake.

It was stated that the meeting was ‘India focussed’ as Pakistan facing threats from India and New Delhi is following ‘aggressive policies’ which are threats for not only Pakistan but to peace and security of the whole region.

Special Assistant to PM on National Security Moeed Yousuf, Secretary Foreign Affairs Sohail Mahmood, senior military and foreign ministry official attended the meeting. The names of military representatives were not disclosed and they were also not identified in picture due to wearing masks albeit DG-ISI Lt. Gen Faiz Hameed was prominent without covering his face.

Sources said the meeting discussed in detail the tension between India and Pakistan and skirmishes at LoC. The deliberations of the meeting would be submitted to Prime Minister Imran Khan, Federal Cabinet and Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa at GHQ for further action. 

Speaking at the meeting, Shah Mahmood Qureshi claimed; “Hindutva mindset and aggressive policies of India were posing serious threats to peace and security of the whole region”.

Qureshi said “India was targeting innocent civilians at the Line of Control (LoC) just to cover up the human rights violations in IOJK and its internal issues”. Even, he said “India had not given up its stubbornness despite having faced embarrassment in standoff with China”.

Qureshi informed the meeting that “Pakistan had been taking up the human rights abuses and deployment of troops in J&K at the internationals forums including the United Nations, so the world community must take notice of Indian aggression”.

The meeting also discussed multiple regional security matters including Afghan peace process and recent activities in this regarding including the recent visit of Gen Bajwa and ISI Chief to Kabul and their talks with Afghan leaders and US Special Representative Zalmay Khalidzad.
