LONDON: Since Pakistan’s three-time former prime minister Nawaz Sharif is reportedly medically not fit to go back to home, the selected leaders of his party arrived in London on Saturday for consultation and to chalk out future strategy.

It is reliably learnt that Nawaz Sharif has called these leaders and held initial discussion with Shahbaz Sharif at a restaurant at Edgware Road, the walking distance from PML-N supremo’s residence in Park Lane area.

The meeting was attended by Shehbaz Sharif, Ishar Dar, visiting PML-N leaders Khawaja Asif, Marriyum Aurangzeb, Rana Tanveer, Ayaz Sadiq, Ahsan Iqbal, Pervaiz Rasheed, Amir Muqam and Khurram Destagir.

Shahbaz Sharif agreed with his close associates that the prevailing political circumstances which is according to them is absolutely victimising situation for both brothers are not appropriate for them to return for the time being though they are continuously insisting that they will go back as soon as Nawaz Sharif’s medical treatment is completed and his doctors allow him to return to Lahore.

During the dinner meeting Shahbaz Sharif stated and echoed by his senior leaders that political, economic and law and order situations are completely beyond control and the country is heading towards total disaster. “PTI Government is creating artificial crisis aimed to craft uncertainty and confusion and the latest episode was the issue of extension in tenure of Chief of Army Staff GenQamar Javed Bajwa”, he added.

Shahbaz Sharif said that the objection and later proceedings of Supreme Court in Gen Bajwa case was an embarrassing development. It was never happened in the history of Pakistan that the tenure saga was raised by apex court and the notified extension by the prime minister is objected and rejected by the top court. Now, COAS got only six months and the whole country is waiting for detailed verdict of the Supreme Court.

Shahbaz Sharif said that his party is waiting for the details of the decision and will make up its mind to take further action in this regard.   After the meeting, the PML-N leaders walked to Avenfield apartment where they met former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and inquired about his health. They also updated him about the decisions taken during the meeting.

Nawaz Sharif advised them to motivate the people especially the workers of PML-N and vigorous campaign should be started for new elections. “There is no other way for the survival except the elections. No in-house change either possible or beneficial. Only and only the new elections are the way of endurance. Once the PML-N win the elections and form the government, he would be out of prison”, Nawaz Sharif hoped.

The meeting continued for about two hours in confidence and all the deliberations were kept off-the record. Shahbaz Sharif and Ahsan Iqbal briefed the waiting journalists outside the flat but did not go in detail. Shahbaz Sharif said that Islamabad is in grip of ‘jadoo-tona’ (magic) and no sensible political activities are going on.

Ahsan Iqbal confirmed that issue of chief of army staff’s extension was also discussed in the meeting. He said that his party will comment on this issue after seeing the detailed judgment of the Supreme Court. The PML-N leader also accused the PTI government of defaming Pakistan Army and creating an issue deliberately.

He said the extension of army chief’s tenure should have been dealt as a routine matter and government had August to November to go through all rules and aspects but “they deliberately made it complicated and brought embarrassment to our armed forces.” This proves that either the PTI government is most incompetent or most dishonest.

It may be recalled that Imran Khan had said in August that he needed General Qamar Javed Bajwa to stay on for another three years because of ongoing security concerns, including heightened tensions with India over the Kashmir region. But last month, Pakistan’s Supreme Court suspended the extension, citing a series of irregularities and ordering the government and the army to produce legal provisions to support the reasoning behind the move.

After days of legal wrangling, the top court conditionally extended the army chief’s term on November 28 but ruled that the government had six months to justify why it granted the controversial extension and to clarify the section of Pakistan’s constitution governing the armed forces. The ruling came as a short order.

A full verdict is still awaited and has given rise to debate about whether the government would be able to grant the extension by passing an act of parliament or be required to push through a constitutional amendment, which requires a two-thirds majority in parliament. This action will be significant.
PML-N sources have confirmed that Nawaz Sharif along with Shahbaz Sharif will go to US for medical treatment. Their return to Pakistan is not possible for the time being and they will like to stay in London and USA for a longer period. “Just wait and see”, the sources commented.

It is learnt thatNawaz Sharif will leave London for US on Saturday for his  treatment and in this connection US old Messachusetts  general hospital has been contacted.

Family members of former PM Nawaz Sharif has contacted Messachusetts general hospital to get reopen the blocked veins of former PM which supply blood to heart and brain.
