LONDON: A teenager has been sentenced to 15 years in jail after he was found guilty of attempted murder. Mohammed Amjad Ali, 19 of no fixed address, was convicted after a trial at Southwark Crown Court in July.
He was sentenced at the same court on Monday, 16 September, the Met reported. The court heard Ali stabbed a 36-year-old man seven times in the chest after he attacked him in Trafalgar Gardens, Tower Hamlets, on 13 August, 2018.
The victim was taken to hospital where he was treated for life-threatening injuries including a punctured lung. Ali left the area shortly after the attack and was seen, without a shirt, discarding the knife.
The victim told police he had been involved in a fight earlier in the day with Ali, who had then returned with a knife and attacked him.
Ali was arrested on 29 August and charged the next day. He pleaded not guilty and claimed the victim had the knife. He said any injuries caused must have been from when they were “struggling on the floor.”
Detective Constable Simon Maude, of the Met’s Central East Unit, said: “This was an extremely aggressive, violent attack in which the victim suffered injuries that could easily have been fatal.
“Ali has consistently denied culpability and shown no remorse for the injuries he inflicted. I hope the sentence handed out by the court will give the victim some form of closure about this incident.”
