Blackburn businessman Jahangir shot dead in Jhelum, mother survived, three people including a woman arrested

BLACKBURN: A 29-year-old businessman was shot dead in Pakistan last week. Jahangir Hussain who ran a takeaway in Blackburn died after he was attacked in Jhelum on Thursday morning.

According a latest information, three people have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of Jahangir. Takeaway owner Jahangir Hussain, 29, from Blackburn, Lancashire, was killed on Thursday as he left his mother’s home in the city of Jhelum, BBC has reported.

Pakistani police said a man aged about 19, a woman and a youth had been arrested as part of a murder investigation. They have been released on bail and will appear in court on 22 January.

Mr Hussain ran the Zorba Pizza and Balti takeaway with his brother in Rossendale and frequently travelled to Pakistan to visit family.

Asian Image has reported quoting BBC Radio Lancashire that a murder investigation has been launched. It is believed that Mr Hussain was shot as he left his mother’s home. His mother was also shot but survived the attack.

A spokesman for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said: “Our staff are supporting the family of a British man following his death in Jhelum, and are in contact with the Pakistani police”.

Cllr Hussain Akhtar, who represents the Shear Brow and Corporation Park ward, said: “I have heard the person lives in Little Harwood area and was very young. “I was very shocked when I heard about it and I feel for the family.

“It is unacceptable to hear that someone has been shot and I hope the person who committed the offence get the punishment they deserve. 

“I hope that the British Ambassador should be intervening and trying to get justice. The community is in shock and I have heard he owned a takeaway. It is very sad for the family that such a young person should die. I am going to be trying to visit the family.”

Sister Nazia Kauser speaking on the radio, said: “At the moment my family is in a big shock. “If you see my brother’s pictures you can see he was an innocent guy. Everyone is crying their eyes out and I still cannot imagine that I lost my baby, he was my baby, he was my brother,” she stated.

“The family had recently been looking to introduce him to potential marriage partners and was devastated”, she added.

Brother of Jahangir Hussain could not control himself over this tragedy and said crying that his brother was innocent and was murdered for no reasons.

The video of a news report, which has been shared across social media, is believed to show the brother of Jahangir Hussain appealing for justice. With tears streaming down his face, the man said: “He has been attacked for no reason. He was such a lovely guy. He was an educated person, he was a degree holder, he was a businessman, he is a brother, he is a son and a brother-in-law”.
