LONDON: Pakistan High Commissioner Mohammad Nafees Zakaria, called on the Minister of State for the Commonwealth and the UN, Lord Tariq Ahmad of Wimbledon, at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO), London. He discussed his (Lord Tariq) forthcoming visit to Islamabad.
The High Commissioner discussed the priority areas of Pak Government with a focus on strengthening economic relations, boosting trade and investment and developing deeper linkages with Pakistani Diaspora for economic dividends for both the countries.
Both sides also discussed the opportunities in the Commonwealth for enhanced people-to-people contacts, business activities, cultural understanding and sustainable development based on shared values.
The Minister of State assured the High Commissioner of the UK Government’s continued support for the new Government to further deepen the existing bilateral ties between our two countries.
Meeting with Mark Field
High Commissioner Nafees Zakaria also met with Minister of State for Asia and the Pacific, Mark Field MP, accompanied by members of the Pakistan Team from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO).
Welcoming the High Commissioner to the UK, the British Minister assured all assistance in discharging his duties and endeavours to further strengthen the longstanding cordial bilateral relations. Mr. Field expressed his Government’s desire to enhance bilateral economic cooperation, particularly, through trade and investment. He appreciated Pakistani Diaspora as a strong bridge between the two countries.
The High Commissioner apprised the Minister of the Government’s priorities, policy approach towards promoting foreign relations, peace and security in the region, and at the domestic front, economic reforms, governance and people centric socio-economic development plans. Both sides also discussed matters of bilateral interest, regional issues and recent developments.
