LONDON: High Commission of India paid homage to M. K. Gandhi and other martyrs who laid their lives for India’s freedom. The day on which Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated is commemorated as Martyrs’ Day.
High Commissioner, Mrs. Ruchi Ghanashyam addressed the gathering and underlined the relevance of the ideals and messages of Mahatma in today’s world. Other speakers also remembered Bapu and his principles. The participants observed silence for two minutes and floral tributes were paid. Buddhist Monks and Dr Nanda Kumar from Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan offered prayers on the occasion. The students of the Bhavan rendered the favorite devotional songs of mahatma Gandhi. The commemoration ended with the tribute at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Parliament Square, London.
