High level Pak, AJK delegation to participate in 2-day Kashmir events in London

LONDON: Vigorous efforts are continued by the Pakistan Government to highlight the Kashmir issue at international level and to draw the world attention towards this core issue which is main hurdle in Pak-India cordial relations.

A high level delegation from Pakistan and AJK will attend two-day event aimed to bring the Kashmir issue in limelight in London on 4th and 5th February. The delegation would be comprised by Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Syed Mushahid Ali (Chairman, Foreign Committee of Senate), AJK President Sardar Masood Khan, Opposition Leader Ch. M. Yasin and others. 16 members of Pak Senate would be headed By Mushahid Ali.

A day long Kashmir International Conference would be held at Parliament Committee Room on Monday, 4th February between 3.30 and 5.30 and members of Pakistani delegation and selected British Parliamentarians and other speakers from USA and Brussels will highlight the Kashmir imbroglio. In the evening Shah Mahmood Qureshi will interact with Pakistani mediapersons and will brief them on government policies.

The second day, on Tuesday – 5th February, two protests would be held outside the 10-Downing Street and the Parliament being organised by Pakistan Patriotic Front and other Pakistani and Kashmiri political parties to demonstrate the affiliation with Kashmiri people and to mark the Kashmir Solidarity Day. Apart from Pakistani and Kashmiri organisations will participate in the protest while the Sikh community would also put their share. It is also being stated that the AJK President would be there to show his affiliation to J&K people but sofar it is not confirmed.

In the evening, a reception and exhibition to commemorate Kashmir Solidarity Day would be held at Intercontinental Hotel, (Ball Room) Park Lane, central London February from 5.30 to 7.30 pm. Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi will attend the event as chief guest.

Meanwhile, in his first interaction with the Pak media at the high commission on Tuesday, new Pak High Commissioner Nafees Zakaria briefed about these activities and urged them to give maximum coverage keeping in mind the object of these events. “This is national objectivity and first priority of Pak Government keeping in mind the fact that the oppressed Kashmiri people have been suffering a lot. We should be their voice and should raise this voice at every international forum and draw the attention of the world.

“Our media is our strength and we bank on our media and expect that they would not use any material against their country as our adversaries would get strength from publishing and broadcasting negative stuff” ,Nafees Zakaria said.

“Without naming anyone, Nafees Zakaria said; “Our adversaries are scared of our power and popularity and we know very well that they are feeding our certain people to achieve their ulterior motives”.

“We are supporting Kashmir cause and Kashmiri people in their indigenous struggle for right of self-determination and would continue extending our support to them on moral, political and international grounds. Kashmiris should be given their genuine right and this imbroglio should be resolved on the basis of UN resolution”, Pak envoy stressed.
