Asad Qaiser says slot given with consent of Imran Khan and other leaders
Nation special report
LONDON: Disclosing the efforts to make opposition leader Shahbaz Sharif as Chairman, Public Accounts Committee, the Speaker of Pakistan National Assembly Mr. Asad Qaiser has opened new Pandora box related to government and opposition relationship.
“How a person who is being under investigation by the NAB in serious scams and his residence has been declared sub-jail can be agreed as Chairman, PAC by the Prime Minister Imran Khan and other political parties”, the political observers commented adding that something is cooking and people eagerly want to know the story behind the curtains.
Asad Qaiser also held meeting with Shahbaz Sharif in his chamber in National assembly and discussed the issue in detail. It is still secret that what offers were made between the two leaders.
Addressing the Pakistani community and later media-persons at the Pakistan High Commission here on Saturday (December 05), he said that he consulted the issue and got the consent from Party’s leadership (PM Imran Khan) and also held wide-range consultation with opposition leaders to pave the way for Shahbaz Sharif to that important portfolio.
“Many people objected to this appointment but I don’t care them and their objections since all done according to law of the soil. Investigation against Shahbaz Sharif is going on under the NAB (National Accountability Bureau) rule and regulations but appointing him as Chairman of PAC is separate issue” he added.
When he was told that at one side, Shahbaz Sharif is being interrogated and persecuted the other side the government facilitated to be the Chairman of PAC, is not clear contradiction?
“I play my role on this issue and if anyone has objection, he can keep with him”, he reiterating adding that I held meeting with Shahbaz Sharif, got the mandate from Prime Minister Imran Khan and leaders of other political parties.
Defending the action by NAB, the Speaker said that this accountability institution is working according to the laws and the PTI got the mandate from people to making all corrupt elements accountable and bring the looted national money from abroad.
Referring the Pak-UK relations, Asad Qaiser said the Brexit will give golden opportunity to Pakistani trade diaspora to increase the trade between the two countries and to increase GSP quota. Hinting towards India, he said they will try to avail maximum benefits but it is the duty of Pakistan High Commission and Pak diaspora to act vigorously and take Brexit issue in the interest of Pakistan.
He said Prime Minister Imran Khan is committed to making Pakistan a modern welfare state where all citizens have equal rights and equal opportunities.
The Speaker said that setting the economy on right track is the priority of the government. In this regard, he added, the Prime Minister Imran Khan has visited friendly countries like China, Saudi Arabia and UAE to seek necessary economic cooperation.
He stated the government is taking steps to bolster exports of Pakistan. He shared with the audience that China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) would turn Pakistan into a regional hub for business and trade.
The Speaker said the government is committed to accountability and transparency. Zero tolerance for corruption is the motto of the government, he added.
The Speaker commended the diaspora for their invaluable contributions not only to the British society but to the development and progress of Pakistan as well. He called upon the professionals and business persons to help Pakistan in their relevant fields. Mr Asad Qaiser specifically urged the countrymen to invest in Pakistan and promised all possible facilitation to the investors, including one-window operation for business and investment facilitation.
