Azad calls for probe into Pulwama killings


NEW DELHI: Congress veteran and leader of opposition in RajyaSabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad, on Monday called for a probe into Saturday’s incidentof killings of seven civilians in Pulwama district of south Kashmir and askedthe government forces to avoid firing on civilians.

“It’s always praiseworthy when our armedforces eliminate militants but it pains when innocent civilians are killed.Killing of more than seven civilians in Pulwama, Kashmir is unacceptable.
“The matter should be probed and securityforces should be asked to avoid firing on civilians, so that Pulwama likesituation does not arise in future,” said Azad in a statement expressinghis grief over the civilian killings. 
On Saturday, seven civilians were killed afterthe forces fired at the protesters in Sarnoo village of Pulwama following agunfight that left three militants and a civilian dead.
