Man held by armed police at Parliament


LONDON: Aman arrested inside the grounds of Palace of Westminster on the morning ofTuesday, 11 December has now been detained under the Mental Health Act, the Methas reported.
At around 11.55hrs, the man tried to gain entry to the grounds of the Palace ofWestminster via Carriage Gates, and ran towards officers posted there. He didnot comply with officers’ requests to stop. A Taser was used by police.
The man, aged 29, was subsequently arrested on suspicion of trespassing at aprotected site, and taken to a police station for questioning. 
The arrested man, who was unarmed, underwent a mental health assessment. He hasnow been taken to hospital after being detained under the Mental HealthAct. 
The investigation continues to be led by officers from Parliamentary

and Diplomatic Protection. 
Witnesses heard a scream and then shouting aspolice ran towards the man inside Carriage Gates in the shadow of BigBen, just yards from where Pc Keith Palmer was stabbed to death last year. He was Tasered and struck with a baton by officersinside the precincts and then pinned to the ground just yards inside thegates. 

BBC political editor Laura Kuenssberg, who also witnessed the disturbance, says she saw the man on the ground, arguing and shouting at police. Police gathered up his belongings, including what looked like a passport, before bundling him into the back of a police van, she added.
