Nafees Zakaria discusses investment, other issues with Dr. Mahathir Mohammad

KUALALUMPUR: Pakistan’s High Commissioner, Mohammad Nafees Zakaria, called on the Prime Minister of Malaysia Dr. Mahathir Mohammad here on Thursday and conveyed Prime Minister Imran Khan’s greetings and thanks for the warm hospitality and courtesies extended during the visit, which he undertook last week.

Reiterating Prime Minister’s invitation to Tun Mahathir, the High Commissioner said that his visit to Pakistan on the occasion of its National Day, to be celebrated on 23rd March 2019, was keenly awaited.

The High Commissioner mentioned that the Prime Minister was highly satisfied with the outcome of the visit. Mr. Zakaria availed the opportunity to brief the Prime Minister on the substantive outcome of the Malaysian investors’ interaction with Prime Minister Imran Khan during the visit and the follow-up action that has been started. He said that the investment sectors in which Malaysian Investors plan to venture in were high on priorities list of the Government.

Prime Minister Mahathir welcomed Malaysian investments in Pakistan and reassured his Government’s support in strengthening investments and trade promotion between the two countries.

The High Commissioner also highlighted the potential for cooperation in the export of Pakistani skilled and semi-skilled manpower, particularly in the IT sector, industrial scale manufacturing in the electronics field, and investment in exploration in the oil & gas sector. He appreciated the Prime Minister’s consideration for addressing the trade imbalance.

Prime Minister Mahathir reaffirmed support in further advancing the bilateral relations between the two countries. Nafees Zakaria presented him a hand-woven carpet to Dr. Mahathir Mohammad as gesture of friendship and respect.

It is pertinent to mention here that Mohammad Nafees Zakaria has now been appointed high commissioner to the UK and according to sources would assume his new responsibilities sometime in December.

He is very popular and respected in Pakistani Diaspora in Britain and is eagerly waiting for his arrival. He has relentlessly worked hard to boost the image of Pakistan and countrymen during his previous era as deputy high commissioner.
