Pakistanis top list of pilgrims performing Umrah


JEDDAH: With more than 262,690 visas issued to pilgrims from Pakistan alone, authorities said they constituted a major chunk of the nearly one million visiting the Kingdom to perform Umrah this year.
The total number of Umrah permits issued has already reached 998,670, of which 695,740 pilgrims are in the Kingdom, data provided by the Hajj and Umrah ministry showed on Monday. There are 294,767 pilgrims still in the Kingdom, with 198,786 in Makkah and 95,981 in Madinah.
While approximately 650,702 travelled by air; 45,010 used the land route and 28 arrived by sea. The largest number of pilgrims are from Pakistan at 262,695; India at 140,505; Indonesia at 131,908; Yemen at 26,334; followed by Malaysia and the UAE at 21,767 and 14,667, respectively.
Upgrading Hajj and Umrah organizations and services provided by them is one of the top priorities of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 reform plans, which aims to attract more than 30 million Umrah pilgrims by extending excellent services and an outstanding experience to them.
Recently, the Hajj Ministry launched a weekly indicator whereby authorities can track the number of pilgrims arriving into the Kingdom.
