ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s just retired Director General, Inter Services Intelligence (ISI), Lt Gen Naveed Mukhtar paid a farewell call on President Dr Arif Alvi at President House and then met Prime Minister Imran Khan at PM House in Islamabad on Monday (23rd October). He got retired on Thursday (25th October).
President Alvi commended the services of Lt Gen Naveed Mukhtar as the head of the premier intelligence agency and also lauded his professionalism and leadership qualities in discharge of his responsibilities.

He said the ISI had been rendering remarkable services in the defence of motherland and fight against terrorism. He also expressed good wishes for Lt Gen Naveed Mukhtar and his family in their future life.
The Prime Minister appreciated the meritorious services of Lt. Gen Naveed Mukhtar for the country during his military career especially as DG ISI. The Prime Minister also expressed his best wishes for his post retirement life. Lt. Gen Naveed Mukhtar thanked the Prime Minister for his expression and best wishes. He also presented a memorable insignia of PM House to Naveed Mukhtar as a gift.
According to informed sources, Naveed Mukhtar would be tasked important assignment related to security affairs and it is likelihood that he would be appointed as National Security Adviser (NSA). This portfolio is still vacant following the resignation of Lt. Gen ® Nasir Janjua. He was appointed as NSA after moving the NSA staff to Prime Minister’s Secretariat on 23 October 2015 and resigned from his job on June 27, 2018.

“Naveed Mukhtar enjoys trust and closeness of COAS Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa and has his full blessing for new assignment. Likewise, Imran Khan also likes him and would definitely utilise his professional skill and experience in any capacity and position”, the sources confided.
The sources earlier claimed that the government is considering to set-up a ‘Special Security Task Force (SSTF) under the headship of Naveed Mukhtar to maintain law & order within the country and particularly on eastern and western borders. Nabbing the terrorism and militancy and elimination of terrorists and militants would also be under jurisdiction of proposed force.
The sources did not mention specific time but said that it would come into implementation very soon and Lt. Gen Naveed Mukhtar is likely to be given the task in advisory position. The sources avoided giving further details and commented “just wait” as it is too early to say in length”.
