LONDON: KBM Consultants held a ‘Festival of Cultures’ at the Brent Islamic Centre, Cricklewood, London. The purpose of the event was to create an opportunity for the local community to find out about the culture of the countries from which a high influx of refugees has arrived into the UK.
Cricklewood is host to a vast number of refugees from Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and Palestine. The event arranged by KBM Consultants celebrated their cultures and traditions that were presented in the form of food and documentaries shared with the audience.
Additionally, and equally importantly, KBM Consultants arranged a job and training consultancy through its sister company KBM Training and Recruitment, whose representatives were available to conduct short interviews to gauge the interests as well as provide free guidance on how the refugees can work towards gaining training and finding employment.
The audience which comprised refugees as well as other members of the community thoroughly enjoyed the food and expressed their delight at seeing the documentaries about the countries. Many took advantage of the training and employment consultancy.
The event was arranged in collaboration with Rumi’s Kitchen, a charity which regularly conducts a weekly kitchen at the Centre. It was wonderful to see their volunteers provide their services to the community, and they were a big help to us in conducting the whole event. The volunteers also enjoyed the festival and expressed their happiness at having learnt more about the cultures of people they support, as they said they did not know much about their ways of life before, and the documentaries as well as food of the different regions expanded their vision on the refugees’ backgrounds and heritage.
