SRINAGAR, Aug 24: Army chief Gen Bipin Rawat today visited the Chinar Corps to review the overall security situation prevailing in the Valley. He was accompanied by Chinar Corps Commander Lt Gen A K Bhatt. On arrival, army chief interacted with the former governor N N Vohra at Raj Bhavan in Srinagar.
Srinagar-based defence spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia said Gen Rawat visited formation headquarters and units where he was briefed by the commanders on the ground about the operational preparedness, the spokesman said.
He said the Army chief was appreciative of the measures and standard operating procedures instituted by the units, and formations to meet the challenges posed by the inimical elements.
Later in the day, Gen Rawat was given an update by the Chinar corps commander in Badami Bagh cantonment on the latest security scenario in the Kashmir Valley including details of counter infiltration and counter militant operations undertaken in the recent past and the Amarnath Yatra.
He was appreciative of the measures initiated which have contributed significantly towards improving the security situation. The army chief also interacted with other senior functionaries of the security forces.
