Nawaz Sharif in Accountability Court; ‘unintentional’ gunfire causes stampede

ISLAMABAD: An accidental gunfire at the hands of a cops escorting convicted former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to the Accountability caused stampede on the occasion of his presence in the court. Personnel of Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) were stunned by the move, made a security shield and surrounded the court.
The Police man responsible for gun fire was disarmed in no time and has been arrested for interrogation. Later the Police said, the gun went off accidentally. Further decision will be taken after completion ofthe investigation into the matter, added the Police. Nawaz Sharif was brought to Accountability Court fromAdyala jail under stringent security in Armored Personnel Carrier in connection with Al-Azizia and Flag ship references hearing while media was not given the permission to come near the carrier for coverage.
But somehow, some photographers managed to take few pictures and those were the first pictures of former prime minister after sentence. Judge Malik Arshad took up the references of Al-Azizia and Flagship for hearing on Monday. Journalists and political leaders were barred from entering into the courtroom during proceedings on the directives of Deputy Commissioner while SenatorChaudary Tanveer, Saadia Abbasi, Barrister Zafar Ullah and Pervaiz Rashid were also not given the permission to enter precinct of AC.
Prosecution witness Wajid Zia and NAB team reached AC bringing the record. Nawaz Sharif was sent back to Adyala Jail after a short hearing while media persons protested for not allowing them to make coverage. Court adjourned the further hearing of the references till 15th August. Independence celebration: Meanwhile, Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz have Independence day with the prisoners atAdiala Jail onTuesday by cutting and distributing 3 cakes among the inmates of prison. Nawaz Sharifsought permission fromAdiala Jail authoritiesto celebrate Independence day which was accorded. At the desire of Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and some prisoners cut the cake in his lock up. Nawaz Sharif got three cakes of 10 pounds each and distributed themamong all the prisoners in jail barracks. The sources said Nawaz and his daughter Maryam looked confident and they mixed up with the prisoners. The prisoners while expressing delight on the occasion chanted slogans “ long live Pakistan, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif”. Sourcessaid Jail administration had deployed police personnel in the face ofsecurity concerns. The celebrations continued for 30 minutes and laterthe policemen sent MaryamNawaz and prisoners to their barracks.
