NSC adviser Nasir Janjua resigned


ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s National Security Adviser Lt. Gen. (R) Nasser Khan Janjua has resigned from his post.
No reason was mentioned in his resignation letter and an official notification only said that his resignation was accepted by the caretaker Prime Minister Justice (Retd.) Nasir-ulMulk on Tuesday. A former three-star general in Pakistan’s army, Janjua, had been serving as the national security advisersince October 2015,soon after he retired from the Army.
He held the key post of Southern Command Quetta as Lt. Gen. before hisretirement.As National SecurityAdviser, for nearly three years, he played an active role to further strengthen Pakistan’s bilateral relations with Central Asian Republics (CARs).
Meetings he held with the Afghan leadership led to a thawing of relations between Pakistan and its western neighbor.
In March this year, Janjua met Afghan President Ashraf Ghani in Kabul, who then invited Pakistan’s Prime Minister at the time, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, to visit Afghanistan.
