DEVOS: Shah Rukh Khan was honoured with the Crystal Award at the World Economic Forum on Monday and expressed special thanks to his wife, Gauri Khan, daughter Suhana and sister Shehnaz Lalarukh Khan.
The Raees star who received the award for his efforts and contribution towards women’s and children’s rights in India said, “I want to thank my sister, my wife and my little daughter for bringing me up well and teaching me the value of requesting, sometimes imploring and begging a yes from a woman, instead of forcing it upon her.”
He also had a fan moment as he asked Cate Blanchett for a selfie and felt “honoured to receive the World Economic Forum’s 24th Crystal Award, together with Elton John and Cate Blanchett. My fan moment.”
Speaking to the media SRK said: “[I’m] extremely charged that I’ve had this amazing opportunity, this award, being recognised like this for minuscule work that I did, I’d like to do it with even more fervor. What is even more pleasant is that India is here in full power.”
Shah Rukh Khan is the founder of the non?profit Meer Foundation, which provides support to female victims of acid attacks and major burn injuries through medical treatment, legal aid, vocational training, rehabilitation and livelihood support. He has also been responsible for the creation of specialized children’s hospital wards and has supported childcare centres with free boarding for children undergoing cancer treatment.
Past recipients of the award are Amitabh Bachchan, A R Rahman and Shabana Azmi to name a few.

The 24th Annual Crystal Awards, which are part of the World Economic Forum’s 48th Annual Meeting, celebrate the achievements of outstanding artists who have shown “exemplary commitment to improving the state of the world.” This year, Shah Rukh Khan is one of the actors being honoured for taking considerable action to uphold human dignity.

The World Economic Forum’s 48th Annual Meeting in Davos will begin later this month under the theme of “Creating a Shared Future in a Fractured World”. The awards ceremony took place on the evening of Monday, January 22, launching the Annual Meeting.
