QUETTA: Three policemen including SSP Hamid Shakil have been martyred in an explosion in the provincial capital, police said Thursday. SSP Operation Nasebullah confirmed that Hamid Shakil, SSP Motor Transport, and two officers were martyred in a blast on theAirport Road.
The blast apparently targeting the police SSP also damaged four vehicles.According to private TV channel, eight other people including citizens people were also injured in the blast and taken to the Combined Military Hospital for treatment. Two of the injured were said to be in critical condition.
The TV channel reported that the blast appeared to be a suicide attack but exact nature of the blast could be ascertained after examination. A TV correspondent said the explosion was so loud that it shattered the window panes of nearby buildings and was heard across the city.
Alarge number of police and paramilitary troops rushed to the area and cordoned off the blast site near an under construction building on the Airport Road. Balochistan Governor Muhammad Khan Achakzai and Chief Minister (CM) Sanaullah Zehristrongly condemned the attack.
The government will not bow down before terrorists, the CM said, adding that the culprits behind the attack would be brought to justice. Gen Bajwa condemns Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa condemned the terrorist attack saying that it was an attempt to mar Independence Day festivity in the country. He said our resolve to fight the menace of terrorism will not succumb to any challenge. Health Minister Rehmat Saleh Baloch has announced emergency in hospitals. Governor Balochistan Muhammad Khan Achakzai have also strongly condemned the bomb blast in Quetta.
In line with Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the terrorist targeted a military vehicle on duty. The suicide bomber was riding a motorcycle with about twenty-five kilogram of explosive material. It is worth mentioning here that fifteen people, including eight security personnel, have been martyred in a suicide blast near Pishin Stop area of Quetta. Twenty-five others including ten security personnel were also injured in the attack.
