Mufti Qavi offered Rs.10m to withdraw murder case; claim Qandeel’s parents

KARACHI: Mufti Abdul Qavi had offered millions of rupees in bribe to withdraw the murder case as claimed by parents of Qandeel Baloch’s parents. They claimed that Mufti Qavi, the prime accused of their daughter’s murder, had offered ten million rupees to withdraw the case.

Meanwhile, Mufti Abdul Qavi went through an angiography, report of which showed that his left artery is blocked. His doctors have advised against the accused’s physical remand to the police due to urgent need of his treatment.

The session court had remanded the accused into police custody for four days on Thursday.

Mufti Qavi was arrested on Wednesday after the court dismissed his bail plea and ordered the police to arrest him for failing to cooperate with the prosecution.

Dr Rana Altaf, Director of the Pervaiz Elahi Institute of Cardiology, told journalists that the cleric was a heart patient and was currently under observation of senior doctors. He said the Mufti had undergone angioplasty some time ago.

Earlier, police produced the suspect before the court of judicial magistrate Muhammad Parvaiz Khan who granted his four-day physical remand, giving him in police custody for interrogation.

Mufti Qavi filed a pre-arrest bail application with the district and sessions judge the same day, who granted the relief and summoned him on Oct 17 (Tuesday). He appeared before the court on Tuesday, but the judge adjourned the hearing for Wednesday.

On Wednesday, the cleric appeared before District and Sessions Judge Chaudhry Ameer Ahmad, but left the court premises before the verdict reserved some time ago on his bail appeal was announced.  Police, however, arrested the cleric and shifted him to Chahliyak police station.
