LONDON: Bollywood star Salman Khan has joined Barnardo’s as the charity’s first international ambassador. He made the announcement last night at The O2 Arena in Greenwich, south-east London, during a performance of his lavish stage show Da-Bangg Tour.
The star who, according to Forbes magazine, was the ninth highest earning actor in the world last year, has his own charitable trust called Being Human – the Salman Khan Foundation in his native India but is excited about being part of the UK’s largest children’s charity.
Salman Khan said: “My foundation is a lot younger than Barnardo’s and is thousands of miles away but we share the same goal. “We are all working tirelessly to help improve the lives of the underprivileged and vulnerable children in our native countries. This is why I was so delighted to be asked to be Barnardo’s first international ambassador”.
“I look forward to supporting the charity’s work so it can continue to transform the lives of the UK’s most vulnerable children.”
Barnardo’s Chief Executive Javed Khan said: “I am delighted Salman has agreed to come on board as our first international ambassador.
“Showing just what can be achieved with hard work, he has risen to the top of the Bollywood box office in his acting career, as well as being a producer, television personality, singer and philanthropist.
“His worldwide profile will help us increase awareness of Barnardo’s so we can help even more children and families to build a better future.”
